A bit of this track to wet your whistle:
“So I said that capitalism is ultimately about the process of accumulation for the capitalist class. Accumulation is the process of taking a set amount of money, investing it in the poduction of things-for-sale, and selling those things-for-sale for an amount of money greater than the original investment. the capitalist buys materials, places them into some process of transformation into a thing-for-sale, what Marx called a commodity, then sells the commodities for a higher return on investment - a profit.” - Stan Goff
